Ashley Purvis - Tuesday Seminar ( Genome )
Dr. Dunston and her discussion about genomes over the last 10 years was very interesting. Throughout her presentation, she states "the history and legacy of Howard University in the pursuit of wisdom in the 21st century." She emphasizes the importance of the word "knowledge" in students especially because for the next few years, we are going to be expected to hold up to a certain standard in academics. She told us to continue the legacy of research that is here at Howard and to strive for the absolute best, to go above and beyond. I will take her advice and research further into the economy and educate my fellow African American community about making wiser financial decisions so that we can make a better, more stable life for ourselves as well as our families. Our African American community needs to understand the importance in financial stability instead of fitting into the stereotype of blacks living off of government assistance or paycheck to paycheck. Financial stability leads to stability with in the household and ultimately makes life easier because you don't have to worry about the stress of being "broke" in America. Some may argue that money isn't everything but society contradicts that.
