Ashley Purvis - Tuesday Seminar ( Mbongi )

In this discussion, Dr. Carr shined light on the real history of when civilization started.  He gave adequate information stressing our foundation of education here at Howard University and in the human community.  Over the years, we've been brainwashed to believe that civilization was started somewhere other than Africa; that is not true according to Dr. Carr. "Everything started in Africa including education".  He discussed legit ways that the modern world and Africa have connections and informed us to educate ourselves with the knowledge of our past.  Get in touch with our roots, know where we came from and where we are headed.  Everything Dr. Carr said in this lecture had an affect on me because I believe that western education does not educated us enough on how Africa paved the way for the education and civilization of today's society.  I now know where I came from, but I will make it my duty to travel to Africa to deeper understand what made it possible for me to be who I am today.  I applaused Dr. Carr for teaching us this lesson and I have a whole new prospective on life. "Sedi" means to educate, and that is now my goal for myself and others around me. If you don't make an effort to educate yourself, you're limiting yourself. It is also important to share knowledge with others around you so that we as a community can grow, not just individually. Everyone is so focused on getting themselves to the top that they forget to bring others with them.
